JH Racing will field two Hyundai i30 N TCR cars during the opening weekend of the 2025 season as Rod McGovern makes his championship debut.
Joining Callum Newsham in the team, Rod will take on Donington Park for the first time in a racing career spanning over three decades of tin-top experience.
Winning the Ireland Dunlop Supercars Championship three years in a row between 2006 and 2008 and following that up with another title after winning the 2017 SEAT Super Cup Ireland championship, with all of his titles taken at Mondello Park, Rod has shown that he’s been able to adapt to front-wheel-drive and rear-wheel-drive cars.
While he has also dabbled in historic racing, this will be the first time that the Irishman has driven a TCR car. As he supports his sons, who are carving out their own racing careers, Rod is excited to get to grips with the TCR concept.
“I’m excited to race on the amazing Donington Park circuit this weekend. It’s one of the few venues left in the UK that I haven’t had the chance to race on, so I’m looking forward to a good weekend,” says Rod.
“I’ve followed TCR UK over the past few seasons, and I’m well aware of how good JH Racing is, so joining them and driving a Hyundai is something I can’t wait to start with. As long as I have a good first weekend in the championship, I’ll be back for more.”
TCR UK Championship Promoter Stewart Lines welcomes Rod to the championship.
“As we get closer to the start of the 2025 season, it’s great to welcome Rod to TCR UK as another new driver joins the grid with JH Racing,” explained Stewart.
“Rod has an enormous amount of experience with tintops, and it’s great to see him coming across to try out a TCR car for the first time. I wish Rod all the best this weekend and look forward to seeing how he goes.”
