As the clock ticks towards the start of the 2022 TCR UK Championship, one of the youngest entrants putting preparations in place to get his season underway is sixteen-year-old Alex Ley.
The teenager will be making his TCR UK debut driving a Daniel James Motorsport run Hyundai i30 N that was campaigned in the TCR Italy Championship last year by top European squad Target Competition.
Armed with such a well-prepared car, Ley is currently seeking sponsorship in order to expand on his current 2022 programme, which so far includes the Donington Park meeting in August and the championship finale at Snetterton in October.
Ley has already tested the Hyundai and shown good pace, as he adapts to a TCR car after racing in the BRSCC Fiesta Junior Championship last year when he finished fourth overall.
Already aiming high early in his motorsport career by joining TCR UK – whilst studying for the Motorsport UK Diploma of Sporting Excellence – Alex will use 2022 as a pre-curser to a full season entry in 2023.
“Having enjoyed success in karting and then racing Fiesta’s, I feel the next step for me is in TCR UK, especially at a time where the series is clearly growing, attracting stronger grids and talented drivers”, said Alex.
“The Hyundai i30 N TCR has been highly successful in the championship already, winning seven of the fourteen races last season and has also won titles in national and international series around the world. I’m hoping it will help me make my mark on the championship, especially as it looks like I’ll be the youngest driver on the grid this season.”
Championship Manager Stewart Lines is pleased to welcome Leys into the championship and said:
“It’s great to see a young up-and-coming driver like Alex enter TCR UK. It goes to show that it’s possible to drive a contemporary touring car in Britain whatever stage you’re at in your motorsport career. We look forward to seeing him join us later in the season and I’m sure that when he does, he’ll be one to watch.”
