In acknowledgement of their impressive performances this season, four of the best from the Milltek Sport Civic Cup were awarded a test in a TCR car by championship promoters Maximum Motorsport. The winners took up their prizes during the TCR UK test day at Donington Park on Tuesday (23rd November).
Coached by the likes of 2021 Touring Car Trophy/TCR UK Champion Lewis Kent and race-winners Bradley Kent and Max Hart, this year’s Milltek Sport Civic Cup Class Champion Alistair Camp and Runner-up Matt Luff were joined by Production Class front-runners, Alfie and Harry Threlfall as they got to grips with the VW Golf GTi TCR that had been driven by VW Racing Cup Champion Jack Depper this season.
Learning about the characteristics of the TCR machine, compared to the Honda Civics they have piloted this year, all of the drivers were inspired by the experience and reacted in similar ways.
Alistair Camp – Cup Class Champion:
“I found the Volkswagen Golf GTi TCR an unbelievable experience. It was very fast. Max (Hart) sat alongside me and gave me some great tips that saw my lap times improve by five seconds and helped me finish the day with a fast time.
“If I can get the right sponsorship, I’d love to take it to the boys on the TCR UK grid next year.”
Matt Luff – Cup Class Runner-up:
“Having had such a great season in the Civic Cup, getting the opportunity to drive the Golf TCR was a dream come true and has definitely influenced my thoughts on what I should be racing in 2022.
“The car was incredible to drive. Maximum Motorsport were very accommodating and professional in working with me. I can’t thank Stewart Lines enough for offering such a fantastic prize for the Civic Cup winners. A truly great experience.”
Harry Threlfall – Production Class Runner-up:
“It was great to experience the Golf TCR. The instructor was brilliant and pushed me more and more every lap.
“I was nervous, to begin with, but soon settled down in the car and as my confidence grew, I was able to get faster over the fifteen-minute session. This has been a great way to end the season.”
Alfie Threlfall – Third, Production Class:
“The Golf TCR was superb; handled like it was on rails! The confidence it gives you to push in the corners is an incredible feeling. Such a great day, a fantastic prize and finishes off the year on a high!”
Stewart Lines – Maximum Motorsport owner, Civic Cup and TCR UK promotor:
“The Civic Cup has been really competitive this year and with the grids so big and the racing so close, it’s clear that to make it to the front you have to be on top of your game. So it’s been great to reward the drivers here today with a chance to see how they get on in quicker machinery. They’ve certainly worked hard for the opportunity this season.
